Why are hamburgers called hamburgers when there is no HAM.

Turkey burgers are made with turkey and veggieburgers are vegetarian. There are even buffalo burgers and deer burgers made from buffalo and deer. So following this logical hamburgers should be renamed beefburgers and if you truly wanted to make a hamburger you would use ham.
